Laueana Growing is currently a one person L.L.C. owned and operated by Mel Byrne in Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of Laueana Growing is to promote the sciences of horticulture and mycology, to promote education in the natural sciences, and to provide sovereignty of livelihood to myself (Mel) and hopefully one day to others. My intent is to transform this one-man show into a collective! Horticulturally, I focus primarily on Mexican butterworts (Pinguicula spp.) but have recently been making forays into the cultivation of rainbow plants (Byblis spp.) as well as Echinopsis cacti. Mycology wise, my goal is to successfully use indoor bag or bucket cultivation to grow nameko (Pholiota nameko) and chicken of the woods (Laetiporus sulphureus), to sell at local markets and to local restaurants. In terms of education in the natural sciences, I currently work as a science tutor, working with students in AP/college biology and high school/middle school science classes.
